next stop, Barney.

hi.
my name is matt nathanson,
and i am addicted to “iCarly.”
ugh. this is so embarrassing.

for those of you over the age of 15, i will let wikipedia explain:

“iCarly is an american television series aimed at teens
and preteens… and is currently aired on Nickelodeon.”

yep.
preteens.
the storylines on “iCarly” make ‘The Sisterhood of the
Traveling Pants’ look like ‘The Godfather.’ like ‘Othello.’
but I LOVE IT. LOVE!! IT!!.

maybe it’s the post tour/december promo burn out.
i got home a few days before christmas
and i still can’t really accomplish anything.
choosing what food to eat feels monumental.
maybe my brain is just functioning slower.
and it is only possible to digest shows geared towards
kids who are reading charlotte’s web.

or maybe i’m devolving.
and it’s only a few short months before i’m drooling in
a crib watching baby einstein videos and making
toothless faces at a mobile…

or maybe i had a stunted adolescence.
and through the magic of Nickelodeon i am finally able
to live out my repressed fantasy of being a teenage girl
who lives without parents (are they dead? on a long trip?),
who has her own internet show, and who’s trouble is over
in 26 minutes.

my money is on a combo of the stunted adolescence thing
and the fact that it’s kind of a rad show.

go ‘tweens!

HA! I’m close to 30 and I like iCarly too! I wouldn’t say that I’m addicted, but the fact that I have two children who like it (my five year old *SON* says it’s his favorite show) coupled with the fact that it’s on 27 times a day means that I watch A LOT of iCarly.

Also, from what I understand, the dad is in the military and therefore absent. I don’t think they’ve ever mentioned the mom.

ok,i just have to tell you that as I am reading your journal about iCarly, I am watching it! the 50th webshow spectacular episode:]

and yes, I am a senior in high school, and yes I am 18.

So, I completely understand and love you for watching this show!

Ill be at your show in Detroit, see ya soon!!

  3. Kristin Says:

Borrow a friend’s kid so you have an excuse. I’m writing for that age group, so that’s mine. Congrats on Letterman!!!! The big time!!

When you run out of iCarly episodes, I recommend checking out Joss Whedon’s Firefly series and the companion movie Serenity. One note of caution: when you get to the last disk of the series, are in love with the characters, and are desperate for it not to end, do not be fooled as I was into thinking that you have one more episode to go called “Special Features”.

You know what? I watch Nick Jr when I need a break…and I actually love it!
    Haha.

  6. Jennifer Says:

You are absolutely hilarious! I have a 13 year old daughter who L-O-V-E-S iCarly! You and her can hang out and talk about going to the Hannah Montana concert and which Jonas brother is your favorite!

As I keep telling myself and I will now tell you….

It is just a phase…it will soon pass!

Don’t feel too bad. My daughter’s 45 year old grandfather watches the Wonderpets and has fits if he misses an episode.

  7. Lora Says:

Matt… this is soo cute. It made me laugh. i’m 15, and I even feel lame saying that i love iCarly. and by the way… her dad’s in the navy or something.
    i love you haha

    i babysat 3 kids for a week.

for months after i would sneak episodes of ‘the suite life of zack and cody’ and ‘iCarly’.

i would change the station if someone entered the room, you tell the world. tomato, tomato.

it will pass, but you will find that you now have a perma-soft spot for the show.

My husband and I watch iCarly too. It started out as a show that the kids watched, but we watch it when they aren’t home…and if we are going to be gone…the dvr records it. It’s so very sad.

  10. Megan Says:

Yeah, it’s pretty wrong, but I’ve watched it to. I pretend I do it for the hotness of the big brother who is almost an age-appropriate crush for me, but secretly I wonder which of the girls the boy who runs tech will eventually fall for. And I am mesmerized by Carly’s hair.

  11. Samantha Says:

HAHA. This made me laugh out loud. Don’t feel bad..My sister is addicted to the show too.. Only..she’s 8… :)

I won’t lie, though. It is pretty entertaining.
