oh. oh. hi. oh.

just got back home last night
after a triple of shows in the midwest.
1 in peoria, IL
2 in oh to the hi to the oh.
chrissie hynde, from the pretenders, has vegetarian restaurant
in akron. it was pretty rad.
aaron, a man who is not one with eating the animals, was over the tofu moon…

he had crispy gnocchi. and vichyssoise.
paul, a devout carnivore, rocked the non-burger.
and fries. (which were fucking awesome)
here he is making the-this is what soy does to me before i destroy the toilet-face.

and i had a faux cheese caprese salad.

with some sweet/spicy broccoli
and some asparagus.
oh hells yes stinky pee!

there were pictures of famous vegetarians lining the walls.
my fav was paul mccartney bottle feeding a goat…
go macca!
and who knew alec baldwin was a veggie?
i guess when he called his daughter a pig that time, that was a term
of endearment… cause he respects her enough to not eat her.
R.E.L.I.E.F.

the place looked very dwell magazine.
exposed air-ducts. steel table tops…
sexy stuff.
and ice in the urinals.
which must be so old school that it’s modern again.
i like peeing on ice.
it feels primal, like…
.. i was about to say, ‘like hunting your own dinner’
but that would go against the PETA spirit of this….
so i’ll just say primal… like fire.

unfortunately, no sign of chrissie.
she is probably on tour.
i was singing ‘my city is gone’ the whole time we were there.
aaron was hoping she would be waiting tables when we walked in.
like she did in the ‘brass in pocket’ video.
no go.
but i did pick up the menu, and point to it and sing ’special’ to the waiter.
and he sang it back.

That salad looks amazing. And on another note, as an interior design student, I’m quite proud you know what Dwell is, I love it when they use car doors as garden accents. Have a good stint at home, Matt!

I totally would have lost it if the waiter had any ink, ’cause the song-that-imprinted-The-Pretenders-on-me is “Tattooed Love Boys”. Oi.

Did you know the “stinky-pee” is actually genetic? It is a dominant gene, like tongue curling. Just some of the random crappola in my head.

I will never forget watching you open for Howie Day in 2002(?) You were far better than him and I’ve liked you ever since! “I can fall alone if all, if I can fall away!” Had I known you were in Peoria I would have driven there! I bet you rocked!

I’ve eaten there before and it is awesome! It also has a ton of gluten-free options as well. The gluten-free grilled cheese sandwich with the caramelized onions rocked my world. I always make a stop there when I find myself in Akron (which is more often than one might think…)

    Hey Matt,
I actually live in Akron, about 5 minutes from ye ol’ vegeteranian. It’s my special lady friend’s favorite restaurant. Every time she goes there she hopes to catch a glimpse of her majesty, Chrissie Hynde, but to no avail. She’s probably always in the back prepping some fake meat t-bone or basting a to-furkey. Anyway, glad you enjoyed a taste of our town here. (pun absolutely intended)! People are always knocking Akron, but we have quite a bit to offer if you actually look for it. Plenty of musicians have come from right here in Northeast Ohio. Chrissie, Devo, Trent Reznor, The Black Keys….the list goes on. But now there is a new band on the rise here, and that is a band by the name of Clemens, which just so happens to be my band. We recently put out our first full length, which we have been working on for the last 4 years. The record sounds incredible, and we’re all just so pumped about it. If you would give it a listen, that would be awesome! You can hear the whole thing at http://www.partingwaves.com. I’m a regular reader of your journal, and I know you like to plug new music that you’ve found every once in a while. We’ve been getting all kinds of positive feedback lately, and if you like what you hear it’d be sweet if you could give us a little shout in a future entry. Or if you don’t like it, you could email me and tell me it’s terrible. Either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Take care, and thanks for the shout out to Akron!
    Dave.

  22. Nevin Says:

Matt, you’re hilarious. Update more, won’t you? And come to Nebraska while you’re at it.
